University of Minho
Partner - Europe
The Universidade do Minho (UM-PT) - Portugal - is a public HEI, founded in 1973 and is one of the so-called "New Universities" who changed the higher education landscape in PT. Located in the Minho region, known for its significant economic activity and by the youth of its population, UMinho is renowned for the quality of its teaching, the quality of its students, the public recognition given to its Alumni, and for its intervention and strong links with the local community and the surrounding region. The campi of Gualtar, in Braga, and Azurém, in Guimarães cover a student population of over 15000, plus 1100 teaching staff and almost 680 technical and administration staff making UMinho one of the biggest HEI in Portugal.
Science, economics, education, management, arts, nursing and medical sciences courses are predominantly taught in Braga, while architecture and most of the engineering/technological courses are offered in Guimarães. All our 11 Schools/Institutes are quite comprehensive and are a reference for their academic and scientific quality at national and international level. All courses and degrees are evaluated and accredited by the correspondent official bodies.
UMinho has very good research and pedagogical infra-structures and an area per student ratio that meets international standards.
UMinho has a long and sound-based experience in coordinating and participating in several European programmes and initiatives. The International Relations Office (GRI) is the unit responsible for the operational coordination, monitoring and support to the development of all actions related to the internationalisation of education, namely in the scope of academic cooperation and mobility. UMinho is fully committed at all hierarchical/organisational levels to this project and all necessary facilities and human/logistic resources will be put into place for its successful development. Internationalisation is one of the main strategic objectives of the University and this project will certainly contribute to its reinforcement.
The ECTS grading scheme is to be used in parallel to the local grading system. UMinho has already proved its proficiency in the use and application of ECTS having obtained the ECTS Label (2004-2013). A Diploma Supplement will be issued to all students who obtain a degree at University of Minho.
It is important to highlight that UMinho is very much focused on sustaining and improving the quality of its mobility activities, where numbers and figures do not matter without being associated to meaningful, reliable, accredited and valid international mobility periods.
